Route 66 – Best of Friends, Best of times
August 1, 2008: My best friend and I are about to embark on a week-long road trip. He has always been a Route 66 fan, and I have always loved the music and family morals of the 50’s and 60’s. My wife and his wife decided to give us an unusual and AWESOME gift for our birthdays (we both turn 40 this year). They decided the “boys” should drive a convertible across the majority of the country, following Route 66. What great wives we have! Of course, you could say that they wanted to get rid of us but I stick with the “awesome wife” story.
Anyway, my best friend and I live in different cities and don’t get together very often. We might go six months without seeing each other, but it seems as if no time has passed when we do. Whether it rains the entire trip and the car breaks down, we expect to have a good time regardless.
I will keep a daily journal each day during the trip. Good or bad, you will be able follow us along. I hope you enjoy following us as much as we expect to enjoy the road.
